Our history
The Brotherhood’s story begins before the parish was formally established — with men gathering to build Orthodox Christian life in Meriden.
The SS. Peter and Paul Brotherhood Society was founded on July 12, 1908 old calendar, on the eve of the Feast of the Chief Apostles Peter and Paul.
Thirteen men, under the direction of V. Rev. Constantine Buketoff of SS. Cyril and Methodius Russian Orthodox Church in New Britain, organized a brotherhood that would help found the Meriden parish in 1911.
This founding story is the website’s crown jewel. The next stage is to add archival photographs, meeting-minute excerpts, and oral histories from older parishioners.
Founded July 12, 1908 old calendar, on the eve of the Feast of the Chief Apostles Peter and Paul, by thirteen men under the direction of V. Rev. Constantine Buketoff.
The founding brothers financially funded and organized the parish of SS. Peter & Paul in Meriden and named it in honor of their patrons.
The Brotherhood helped carry parish life through immigrant settlement, feast days, cemetery care, social gatherings, and practical mutual aid.
A renewed Brotherhood is organizing its calendar, workspace, service projects, membership pathway, and public presence for the next generation.
